Premium Presbyopic Lens Implants

Now you Have a Choice

If you wear bifocals, you are familiar with the condition we call presbyopia. Over time, the eye’s lens gradually losses its elasticity and it’s ability to change shape (accommodate) to see near objects.

Traditionally, after removing a cataract, the surgeon implants a monofocal replacement lens that provides excellent distance vision. A monofocal lens cannot compensate for loss of accommodation due to presbyopia, so those who opt for this type of lens usually need glasses to improve near vision or to fine-tune distance vision. Some monofocal lens recipients are happy with their choice.

However, if freedom from glasses is important to you, you may want to consider a multifocal replacement lens that corrects for presbyopia. The innovative designs of multifocal lenses make it possible to take vision correction to a new level by restoring your youthful ability to focus on objects at varying distances. They provide sharper vision for near, far, and everywhere in between with less reliance on corrective lenses like glasses or contact lenses.

Monofocal? Multifocal?
Which Lens Replacement is right for you?

This question can be answered only after careful consideration of the health of your eyes, your individual lifestyle, and the demands of your occupation and hobbies.

Before advising you, Dr. Collins will want to know more about…

  • The kind of work you do
  • How many hours a day you read and what types of reading you do
  • How many hours a day you use the computer
  • The types of outdoor activities you enjoy
  • Your hobbies, and whether you do close work, like sewing or knitting
  • How much driving you do at night
  • Whether you like to travel
  • How bothered you are by wearing glasses

The ReSTOR, ReZoom, and Crystalens® lens implants are examples of the new premium presbyopic lens implants now available that allow patients to see in the distance, up close, and in between. Dr. Collins will help you select the lens that best meets the visual demands of your lifestyle.

The decision is yours. Ask yourself, "If I didn't need my reading glasses or bifocals, what would my life be like?"
