Conductive Keratoplasty (CK)

If you are over 40 and need reading glasses, CK (conductive keratoplasty) may be the solution for you. This procedure uses radio frequency to improve your vision and help reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses. Dr. Collins was a clinical investigator in the CK clinical trials leading to the FDA approval of this technology.

CK truly represents a significant advancement in vision improvement technology. Developed specifically for patients over 40 who are tired of their reading glasses, CK has proven to be a safe and effective refractive alternative. In fact, NearVisionSM CK is performed using the only technology approved by the FDA for improving near vision in patients — the ViewPoint® CK System.

CK uses a pen-shaped instrument with a cool tip as thin as a human hair. After applying topical anesthetic eye drops, the doctor administers radio frequency energy in a circular pattern along the periphery of the cornea. The entire process takes about three minutes and can be performed in the doctor’s office.

Immediate vision improvement is possible, and no patches or bandages are needed. Recovery is fairly quick, and the majority of patients are able to return to work and other normal activities on the day after their procedure. In a follow-up study, 98 percent of CK patients could read newspaper-sized print, and 87 percent had 20/20 distance vision and could read phone book sized print. None of these patients reported serious problems.
