Cataract formation, a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye, is a common occurrence as one grows older. Symptoms of cataracts include blurred vision, degraded night vision, glare and haloes around lights, light sensitivity, double vision in one eye, and color distortion. Dr. Collins offers modern, state-of-the-art cataract surgery to help patients obtain clear vision like they had when they were younger. Many of Dr. Collins’ patients also reduce their dependence on glasses after cataract surgery.
Dr. Collins uses the latest techniques and equipment when performing cataract surgery. Using only topical anesthetic drops to numb the eye, he creates a very small “self sealing” incision and uses high-energy sound waves (phacoemulsification) to break the cataract into small pieces, which are then removed from the eye. An intraocular lens (IOL) implant is inserted into the eye to compensate for the removal of the eye's natural lens. No stitches are usually required because the “self sealing” incision remains tightly sealed by the natural outward pressure within the eye.
Dr. Collins’ surgical technique at is often preferred to traditional, older methods because patients remain very comfortable during and after the procedure. Most patients notice a rapid visual improvement with this technique. If you or someone you know has signs of cataracts, please schedule an exam with Dr. Collins today.
